VIJAYAWADA: In an apparent situation wherein they found themselves bereft of attention, care and proper direction, junior doctors and medicos on Wednesday turned prayerful by raising their hands to the heavens to seek blessings of goddess Kanaka Durga for fulfilment of their long-pending demands.

Keeping the spark of creativity alive in them, the striking doctors have been resorting to weird ways to attract public attention.

On Wednesday morning, nearly 300 doctors marched upwards the road leading to the Kanaka Durga temple atop Indrakeeladri hill.

`Unkept' promises

Standing at the sanctum sanctorum, they prayed to the goddess with folded hands. "We pleaded with Durgamma talli to let good sense prevail on the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, for solution of our long-pending problems. Our repeated pleas seem to have fallen on deaf ears. Vexed with the indifferent stand of the Government, we have decided to pour our woes before the presiding deity of the temple," said Suresh, president of the Siddhartha Medical College unit of the Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors' Association.

Amidst chants of "Jai Maata ki," the doctors placed at the feet of the goddess a cardboard box containing the "unkept" promises of the Government. After pleading their case before her, they returned to the foot of the hill and immersed the box in the Krishna.
