Journalist Kuchimanchi dead

VIJAYAWADA Dec. 4. Kuchimanchi Satya Subrahmanyam, veteran journalist and winner of the Best Journalist award of the Andhra Pradesh Government, died of cardiac arrest at around 11 a.m. in a private nursing home here today. He was 74.

Mr Subrahmanyam worked with several dailies in various capacities for 32 years.

He worked as editor of Andhra Prabha Telugu daily of the Indian Express group here.

He began his journalistic career as a staff reporter of United Press of India(later renamed as United News of India-UNI). He left UPI to work with Telugu daily `Vijaya Prabha' for a while and then went back to the wire service.

He worked with several organisations during his illustrious career. He worked for Associated News Services(ANS), Deccan Chronicle, Daily News, both published from Secunderabad and for a while in Andhra Janata until the APCC(I) took it over in 1965. Subsequently he edited `Panchayat', a Telugu Monthly published by the Andhra Pradesh State Chamber of Panchayat Raj.

After this assignment Mr Subrahamanyam joined Andhra Prabha as assistant editor in Bangalore and was later made editor of the paper.

He spent the last decade as the executive editor of Pledge, English daily, here. He is survived by three daughters.
