JAC condemns running of private buses

VISAKHAPATNAMRAJAHMUNDRY: The regional wing of the Joint Action Committee of the APSRTC Trade Unions condemned the act of running private buses with the help of untrained crew, endangering the safety of passengers and people.

The JAC regretted the inconvenience caused to the people due to the strike, but the employees were forced to launch the strike to protect the public sector undertaking, its leaders, Y. Srinivasa Rao, C.S.V. Swamy and K. Ramana, said in a press release.

Except 10 officials, the employees numbering nearly 5,000 in the region were on strike, the JAC said, and requested the private bus operators also to support the strike.

68 buses operated

VISAKHAPATNAMRAJAHMUNDRY: Officials of the RTC succeeded in running 68 buses from nine depots in the district on Tuesday. In all, 97 hired buses plied.

Tension prevailed near Rajahmundry depot when RTC workers led by the Joint Action Committee leader, S. Nageswara Rao, and the CPI district secretary, Meesala Satyanarayana, blocked the road when the management tried to get the fleet out of depots.

The police intervened and arrested the leaders. They were released in the evening

New trains

Meanwhile, the South Central Railway has decided to run two schedules between Vijayawada and Rajahmundry in view of the strike. According to S.V. Subba Rao, Superintendent of Rajahmundry station, the SCR allotted 25 pairs of trains to Vijayawada division, in which two schedules were allotted to Rajahmundry.

In the first schedule, one passenger between Rajahmundry and Vijayawada will start here at 7 a.m. and reach Vijayawada by 11.30 a.m. From Vijayawada, it will start at 11.45 a.m. and reach Rajahmundry by 4.30 p.m. and reach Samalkota by 6.30 p.m..

In another schedule, one train will leave Nidadavolu at 7.40 p.m. and reach Rajahmundry at 8.30 p.m. It will leave Rajahmundry at 8.45 p.m. and reach Nidadavolu at 9.40 p.m.
