Interest on tax draws flak

NELLORE, JULY 24. At the general body meeting of the Nellore Municipal Council, held here on Saturday, members cutting across party lines, came down heavily on the administration for collecting interest on tax, thereby subjecting poor taxpayers to hardship.

The members pointed that such a step was totally uncalled for. The members further complained that there was inordinate delay in providing basic services to the people. They also protested against the tardy approach towards removal of encroachments and reminded the administration, that such measures should be continuous.

Some members even threatened to resign from the town planning advisory committee.

Resolution passed

Members including the vice-chairman, Sd. Sandani Basha, U. Basavaiah (CPI-M), K. Srinivasulu Reddy (TDP) and others spoke.
