Hydel generation stepped up

HYDERABAD March 29 . Hydel generation has been stepped up and loads marginally regulated to meet the shortfall of 10 million units between supply and demand (160 million units).

The regulation is limited to the day and adequate supply given for lighting throughout the night, said an official press release giving details of a meeting of the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, with Ministers and officials to review the supply position. The Chief Minister spoke to the NTPC chairman soon after the meeting and the latter agreed to supply 100 MW from tonight. Mr Naidu also spoke to the ONGC chairman and the GAIL chief who also agreed to increase the gas supply by an additional 12%.

The release said the NTPC may start delivering three million units following the Chief Minister's intervention. Mr. Naidu instructed officials to ensure nine hours' power supply to farmers and uninterrupted power during nights to all areas and to see that there was no power tripping in spite of peak demand.
