Hike in fuel prices: PM's effigy burnt

NALGONDA, AUG. 1. The Telugu Desam Party district unit on Sunday launched a three-day protest programme against the increase in prices of petrol and diesel.

While party activists led by the district secretary, Regatte Narasimha Reddy, burnt the effigy of the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, at the Clock Tower in the district headquarters, a group of protesters led by the Municipal Chairperson, Penta Narasimha, gheraoed the Congress leader, V. Hanumantha Rao, at Bhongir.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, the district party president, A. Sudarshan, said that the protest would be intensified in all mandals in the district in the next two days, with a demand for a rollback of the prices. He dubbed the hike anti-people.
