`Herbs hold out hope for HIV patients'

VIJAYAWADA, OCT.11. A retired professor of Sri Venkateswara University, K. Narayan Rao, has claimed that there are certain medicinal plants in the country which have the potential to produce a cure for HIV-afflicted patients.

In an informal talk with reporters here on Monday, at a seminar organised by the Montessori Mahila Kalasala, he said the plants like "actinopleris radiate" and "cheleanthus farinase" had unique properties which could help strengthen the immune system in a HIV patient and prevent further progression of the disease. "Particularly, it works very well in infants and children to whom the disease is transmitted from parents," he said.
