Grill TD leaders over power tariff: KCR

KALWA SRIRAMPUR (KARIMNAGAR DT), FEB 26. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi president, K Chandrashekhar Rao, has called upon people to grill Telugu Desam Party leaders over the steep hike in power tariff during campaigning.

Addressing the `Telangana Sankharavam' public meeting in this naxalite-affected interior mandal on Thursday afternoon, the TRS president urged people to invite TDP leaders to their houses and ask them to pay their huge power bills. Recollecting the Basheerbagh firing after the power tariff hike by the Government, he said the tariff hike had burdened all sections of people, particularly the common man. During his half-an-hour speech, he laid emphasis on power tariff hike.

Amid applause from the audience, he expressed concern over alleged discrimination against Telangana's farmers in the matter of power tariff . He said in Telangana only 10 lakh acres had irrigation facility against 90 lakh acres in the Andhra region.

He said the Government was neglecting the Yellampalli project and other minor irrigation projects in Kalwa Srirampur mandal. Calling upon leaders of the TDP and Bharatiya Janata Party in the region to join the TRS to achieve separate Telangana, he urged Telangana people to stop carrying TDP and BJP flags.

On the naxalite problem, he said the TRS was in favour of peace talks and development of the region. He said the problem would be solved only with formation of Telangana state as it would eradicate poverty. Reiterating that a dalit would become Chief Minister in Telangana state, he said they would distribute three acres of land to all dalits and tribals of the region and provide them irrigation facilities.

He appealed to voters to cast their vote in favour of TRS and Congress candidates in the coming elections. The TRS district president, C Satyanaryana Reddy, the TRS State vice-president, M Satyanarayana Reddy, the TRS State general secretary, K Mruthyunjayam, and the Congress leader, Kesava Rao, were present.

At a public meeting in another interior mandal -- Saidapur -- in the evening, the TRS president called upon women to play a responsible role in formation of Telangana state for solution to their problems. Addressing the gathering in this drought-prone mandal where women outnumbered men, Mr Chandrashekhar Rao alleged that the Government was neglecting removal of silt from the Sriramsagar project and execution of its flood flow canal.

The zilla parishad chairman, K.V Rajeshwara Rao, was also present.
