GUNTUR: The State Government has requisitioned additional central forces for combing and security operations in the Palnadu region part of which falls in Guntur district.

The security for all the 35 police stations in the Palnadu region has been enhanced following imposition of ban on CPI(Maoist).

Pro-active role

The District Superintendent of Police, V.C. Sajjanar, on Thursday told The Hindu that one battalion of Central Reserve Police Force had arrived in the district and one of them had already been deployed in Piduguralla and would conduct combing operations in the Guthikonda and Bellamkonda regions.

Two others would be deployed in the Gurazala, Macherla, Veldurthi, and Bollapalli mandals, which were the hotspots of naxalite activity, he said. "The combing operations are continuing with village visits and now the police will play a pro-active role in containing the violence," he added.

The district was currently having four battalions of CRPF police personnel numbering 1,000 to 1,200 personnel to take care of security of sensitive police stations, conducting combing operations and providing security to the political personnel with high security threat.

Fresh G.O. had to be issued for declaring rewards on several naxalites and the Intelligence Department had the information and there could be some 30 persons from the district in the existing list in this category.

The naxalites had been making the Palnadu region as the action zone.
