GITAM’s governing body sees high-profile inclusions

Retired bureaucrat K. Padmanabhaiah and noted opthalmologist Gullapalli Nageswara Rao joined the Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management’s governing body as its members here on Wednesday.

Mr. Padmanabhaiah, who served as former Union Home Secretary, is now the chairman of the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI, Hyderabad). Dr. Nageswara Rao is the founder of the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute. The former was conferred the Padma Bhushan while Dr. Nageswara Rao the Padma Shri, for their contributions to their respective fields.

GITAM president M. Sribharath extended a warm welcome to the new members here on Wednesday during the governing body meeting and said it was a honour and privilege to have them on board.

“Both of them have decades of leadership in their respective fields, and are well-aligned with GITAM’s goal of changing the world for the better through education,” Mr. Sribharat said.

The meeting was attended by all existing governing body members including GITAM vice-president Prof. M. Gangadhara Rao, secretary B.V. Mohana Rao, joint secretary M. Bharadwaj and treasurer B.S.S.N. Raju. Mr. Padmanabiah, a 1962-batch IAS officer, served the Government of Maharashtra and the Government of India in various capacities in crucial sectors such as internal security, energy, aviation, urban development and agriculture.

He was the Central Government’s key interlocutor for peace talks with Naga militants for over a decade.
