Firearms recovered from pseudo-naxal

ANANTAPUR, FEB. 26. The Kadiri police have recovered five country-made firearms and ammunition on information given by the leader of a pseudo-naxalite gang, who surrendered before the Deputy Inspector-General of the Anantapur Range four days ago.

Giving details to newspersons here on Friday, the Superintendent of Police, Anil Kumar, said the self-styled leader of the Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist (ROC Ashok group), Vemana dalam, S. Nija Sekhar alias Netaji alias Sivaji, was extorting money in the Nallamada, Mudigubba, Kadiri and Obuladevara Cheruvu areas by threatening targets. His brother and self-styled leader of the CPI-ML (ROC Ashok group), P. Surendrababu alias Ashok alias Suri, was killed in an exchange of fire with the police some time ago in the Dharmavaram area. Nija Sekhar surrendered before the DIC, Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, and, based on information elicited from him during interrogation, the Kadiri police recovered the weapons. Besides, 130 rounds of ammunition belonging to various weapons was recovered. He was allegedly involved in several criminal cases, including three murders.

In another case, an underground militant of the People's War, G. Sreenivasulu alias Mallesh of Tagarakunta of Kanaganapalli mandal, was arrested.
