It's time to bond with friends and relatives

HYDERABAD: The city soaked itself in yuletide with Christmas spirit sweeping its denizens, cutting across religious lines.

The festivities began with the ringing of church bells at midnight masses held across the city and the merry making continued all day long.

People thronged churches to pray for peace and prosperity.

Houses were decorated with glittering stars, lights and Christmas trees and buzzed with activity as friends and relatives greeted one another.

Malls and hotels too were beautifully decorated with lights, bells and ornamented entrances into Santa's land. While, some were out lunching and dining with friends and family, others preferred to call them up at home.

"I am preparing several delicacies as my friends will be joining for lunch. After days of hectic schedules, festivals are the best time to bond and catch up with friends and relatives," said Sanila Mammen, a city-based software engineer.

Several Non-Resident Hyderabadis, particularly those from the Anglo-Indian community in Lalaguda, made it home for the annual revelry.

When Santa descends

The defence forces were not far behind too. Santa usually comes on a sleigh, but during Christmas celebrations organised by 408 Air Force Station, Hakimpet, he landed along with its elves from the sky with parachutes much to the delight of children as they ran to grab sweets showered by Santa Claus from the sky.

Soft music and songs sung by a choir, only added colour to the festive mood. It was also to mark the platinum jubilee celebrations of Indian Air Force.

However, on a different note, while Santa brought cheer by showering gifts on some children in the city, there were some unfortunates who were selling Santa caps, to earn that cheer.
