FAPCCI plea for cut in industrial tariff

HYDERABAD, MARCH 24. The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) wants the Andha Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) to reduce industrial tariff to Rs.2.50 per unit in order to attract new units to the State.

A federation press release welcomed the Commission's announcement that industrial tariff has been reduced from Rs.3.50 to Rs.3.25 and Rs.3.40 per unit for different users.

It also welcomed rationalisation of tariff for the farm sector.

It said there was flight of units from the State to Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal and the North-East because of attractive excise and income tax benefits. It wanted the State Government to urge the Centre to implement the excise duty structure recommended by Kalkar Committee so that eventually VAT and excise would be on par. Such measures, coupled with Rs.2.50 per unit tariff would help attract industries to the State, it said.

Fast track courts

In another press release, O.P. Goenka, president of FAPCCI, expressed concern at the uncertainty over the continuation of fast track courts after March 31. If the Finance Commission did not provide funds and the Finance Ministry failed to come to rescue, 1,700 fast track courts would become defunct from March 31.
