Ex-KC Canal committee chief joins Congress

CUDDAPAH, FEB. 26. The former KC Canal Mydukur Distributary Committee chairman, E.V. Maheswara Reddy, resigned from the Telugu Desam Party and joined the Congress in the presence of the former Congress Legislature Party leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, at Khajipet on Thursday.

Addressing partymen, Dr. Reddy accused the TDP Government of ruining the State's economy and being negligent despite the spate of suicides by debt-ridden farmers and agricultural labourers. Calling upon the people to vote the Congress party to power, he reiterated the party's electoral promises such as free power supply, loans to DWCRA members at 25 paise interest and hike in old age and widow pension to Rs. 200 a month.

Dr. Reddy was given a rousing welcome at Khajipet. The member of Proddatur in the dissolved Assembly, N. Varadarajulu Reddy, former Minister, D.L. Ravindra Reddy, DCC treasurer, I. Thirupal Reddy, Khajipet ZPTC member, Govinda Reddy, former Khajipet mandal president, Srinivasa Reddy, Kamalapuram constituency in-charge, Putha Narasimha Reddy, and others took part.
