PJR doubtful about supply to Telangana irrigation projects

WARANGAL: Congress MLA P. Janardhan Reddy on Monday sought to know as to how the Government plans to supply power to the ongoing irrigation projects in Telangana region while it is struggling to meet the demand of farmers.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Janardhan Reddy who was here on a private visit, said the State Government should ensure uninterrupted power supply of seven or nine hours as promised to the farmers. "We (the Congress) criticised the TDP on this count. What are we doing now?" he posed.

He said a majority of the ongoing projects in Telangana region are lift irrigation projects which require a lot of power.

Pothireddypadu issue

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy who claims to respond to a simple post card was maintaining silence over the Pothireddypadu project. The works on the project were going on much against the wishes of the people. "I am ready for open debate anywhere on this issue," he reiterated.

Mr Janardhan Reddy found fault with the Congress MLAs who favoured second SRC. He said they changed their tack strangely. The Congress MLA said that the Karimnagar by-election should be a lesson to the ruling party. The people rallied behind the TRS only because the Government failed to keep its promises on many fronts. "What is sentiment? When you fail to fulfil your promises, people look for an alternative," he said.
