Ensure success of pulse polio drive: Collector

VISAKHAPATNAM, APRIL 24. The District Collector, Sunil Sharma, on Saturday exhorted officials to ensure that every child is covered under the fourth round of intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation programme slated for May 9.

He said that it was their duty to see that each and every child was protected from polio and administered oath to them. He also called for rectifying lapses, if any, during the previous rounds, and added that wide publicity should be given to the programme.

Mr. Sharma warned of action against the staff abstaining from duty on the programme day and said that not a single case of polio incidence should be reported in the near future. This was one disease that could be eradicated completely, he said.

The technical adviser for polio surveillance from WHO, B.P. Subramanya, said the percentage of missed out children from the immunisation programme in the State was 3.18 and it was slightly lower in Visakhapatnam district at 2.6 per cent.

This additional special round of immunisation programme was being taken up only in six States, he said and urged officials to take steps to make it a grand success.
