Encounter: police yet to ascertain identity of victim

GUNTUR: The Guntur district police are yet to ascertain the genuineness of claim of a former active member of a dalam Jyothi that the person killed in exchange of fire in Kakirala of Durgi mandal was not Nagaraju, but her brother Prasad.

The parents of Nagaraju had performed the last rites of Nagaraju at their native village in Pamidipadu in Guntur district and claimed that it was their son.

A day after the last rites were performed, Jyothi along with her husband claimed on Friday that it was Prasad who had died and Nagaraju was still alive.

A native of Khammam, she had settled in Guntur and had seen the photographs in the newspapers, but did not claim on that day, the police said.

The police had instituted an inquiry into the whole issue of claims and counterclaims and proposes to come out with facts in a couple of days.
