Eco clearance for four big projects soon: Ponnala

TIRUMALA: The Minister for Major Irrigation, P. Lakshmaiah, has said the Centre will give forest and environment clearance for four major irrigation projects in the State soon.

Mr. Lakshmaiah told mediapersons here on Friday that the projects were: Ali Sagar (Rs. 110 crores) Guthpa (Rs. 148 crores), Thatipudi and Chokka Rao Lift Irrigation (Rs. 930 crores). All formalities had been fulfilled and the Government was just awaiting the official announcement, which was expected in a day or two.

Dwelling at length on various irrigation works being envisaged by the State Government, he said out of four lakh hectares of land required to be acquired for all major works, the Government so far had acquired more than two lakh hectares of land, which is beyond that was expected.

The Minister, who expressed satisfaction over rehabilitation programmes aimed at the benefit of displaced families, said the Government was giving top priority for requirements of agricultural labourers.
