TIRUPATI: Payment of bills pertaining to electricity, civic administration and telecom came to a grinding halt on Saturday, with the e-Employees Association of Chittoor District, the body representing employees of e-Seva centres across the district, announcing to go on indefinite strike.

The strike by the 162 members of the association left denizens of the municipal towns and cities desperately forming serpentine queue lines in front of electricity, revenue, municipal offices and BSNL payment centres.

All the 13 e-Seva centres in the district, including five in Tirupati, four in Chittoor, two in Madanapalle and one each in Punganur and Srikalahasti, remained closed today.

Work on buildings under construction to house e-Seva centres in Puttur, Nagari and Palamaner towns was also dropped.

The other services dealt with by e-Seva such as vehicle taxes, education-related applications, SSC/Intermediate results, Rajiv Gruha Kalpa applications, RTC reservations, passport applications, Western Union money transfer etc. remained disrupted. Chittoor district, which alone churns out a mind-boggling revenue of Rs.40 crore per month with 2.20 lakh transactions, joins Anantapur, Kadapa and Kurnool districts, which are already four days into the agitation. It was learnt that Vizag and Khammam district units had also raised a banner of revolt, while eight more districts were expected to strike work from Monday.

The aggrieved employees lamented that the paltry sums paid as salaries was grossly insufficient to make their ends meet.

While the Government was paying Rs.9,500 to the e-Seva manager, the amount received by them was only Rs.5,024.
