e-Seva centres to provide income, residence certificates

GUNTUR: For those weary of doing rounds to the Tehsildar's office, the good news is that one can get certificates relating to income, residence, caste, birth and death at the nearest e-Seva centres. The pilot project would be initially launched at the five e-Seva centres in Guntur and limited to income and residence certificates. It would soon be extended to municipalities.

“The project is citizen friendly and promises to usher in transparency. The citizens can get the certificate within a day after submitting the application forms,'' Joint Collector, Gaurav Uppal, who was brain behind the project, told The Hindu on Monday. Guntur would become the first district to implement the services.

Major Industries Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana is expected to inaugurate the project at an e-Seva centre on Ugadi day. All the applicants have to do is to apply for income/residence certificates at the nearest e-Seva centres with all the necessary copies. The personnel at the e-Seva would give them an acknowledgment number and on the following day, the applicants can collect their certificates.

Though the Tahsildars have been given a time frame to complete the process within day, the officials aver that it would take a bit longer to issue certificates, which require field inspection, like caste certificate.

The proposed project would also save a lot of time for Tehilsidars saddled with mounting revenue and surveying work besides attending to protocol duties, keeping him away from office most of the time. As a result, the whole process was getting delayed and brooded corruption.
