Dissidents step up campaign against Purushottam Reddy

NALGONDA, FEB. 26. The Congress leader in the district, V. Purushottam Reddy, is facing dissidence in his own turf, Ramannapet Assembly constituency, and his detractors has stepped up campaign against him.

A group of leaders held a meeting at Chittapuram in Valigonda mandal on February 22 and passed a resolution opposing his candidature for the Assembly seat. They not only forwarded the resolution to the party high command but also reportedly met the party in-charge, Ghulam Nabi Azad, at Gandhi Bhavan recently to present their case against the former MLA.

Interestingly, Mr. Reddy is also facing criticism from his younger brother and Market Committee former chairman, Vuppunoothala Soma Narasimha Reddy. He reportedly expressed his willingness to join the Telugu Desam Party to ensure his brother's defeat in the coming elections.

The former president of mandal Congress, Purnachandra Rao, and the DCC vice-president, Mohammad Gous, who parted ways with Mr. Reddy after the last elections, are leading dissidents. Their main complaint against the leader is that he has marginalized them in party affairs.

Kommu Papaiah, former Minister, V. Manohar Pantulu, member of the Ramannapet ZPTC, and others have been supporting the dissidents.

Mr. Reddy, however, says that none can stop the allotment of ticket for him.
