Directive on foreign fishermen

The State government has issued an order for formation of a district-level committee and a joint interrogation committee to look into the issues pertaining to foreign fishermen.

As per the orders, a district-level committee headed by the Collector and a joint investigation committee consists of representatives of Customs, Coast Guard, Immigration, Police (special branch), IB, and the Fisheries Department to look into the illegal entry of foreign fishermen into Indian waters. Addressing a review meeting over the issue here on Wednesday, Collector Neetu Prasad said foreign fishermen must be arrested and produced before the magistrate within 24 hours of taking them into custody.
