Demolition of flagpost leads to tension

NIZAMABAD, NOV. 29. Tension gripped the mandal headquarter town, Nandipet today following the demolition of a flagpost at the bus stand centre as part of road-widening work undertaken by the village panchayat.

Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party staged a dharna and later rasta roko demanding the arrest of the village sarpanch, Madarsaheb. They alleged that the sarpanch intentionally got the flagpost removed.

The sarpanch explained that it was removed to widen the road and would be built elsewhere. However, the activists were not convinced and continued the agitation till afternoon, according to the Armoor Deputy SP, Pareedappa.

With tension mounting additional police force was deployed.

The Circle Inspector, Mohan Reddy, rushed to the village and monitored the situation. Though the situation was brought under control a police picket was posted in the village, the Deputy SP, said.
