Dell offers expertise for city development

Dell, one of the leading integrated IT players in the world, sees a big role for it in developing Visakhapatnam as a smart city by offering its expertise in technology integration to improve quality of life.

With an investment of Rs .500 crore over five years for technology integration, Dell is looking at extending its service in four parameters viz. social media, mobility, cloud and analytics. Vizag, Ajmer and Allahabad will be developed as smart cities by the Centre in collaboration with the United States.

Ranjit Metrani, Director and Head-South Geo of Dell International Services India Private Limited, told The Hindu here that the company had expertise in individual areas. It is ready to offer services in training and development as well as integration of technologies in the form of developing applications and management of infrastructure 24x7.

Dell acquired 18 companies in the past two to three years with an investment of US$13 billion helping it in integration of new technologies. He said they had acquired firms specialising in analytics, application modernisation, cloud integration, networking and software solutions. Mr. Metrani said the company was ready to offer their services in better traffic signal management, waste management and access control security.

He said they were also looking at opportunities for participation in and around Amaravati – the new capital region and tier two and three cities and towns to popularise adaptation of technologies with full-fledged solution portfolio.
