Nurse set afire; dies

A nurse, Sunitha, who was allegedly set afire by an unidentified person in her room in Vasavi Hospital at Saifabad on Wednesday, succumbed to burns on Thursday. The Saifabad police registered a murder case.

Sunitha was living in one of the rooms in the top floor of the hospital building along with other nurses. She was seen coming out of her room engulfed in flames. She was admitted to the same hospital with serious burns. "In her dying declaration, Sunitha said a dark person has poured kerosene on her and set her afire," the Saifabad ACP, K. Ramesh Naidu, said.

Labourer found killed

A labourer, Venkatesh (45), was found murdered near a burial ground at Rodamistry `A' Colony under Jeedimetla police station area on Thursday. The police picked up two locals -

Narsimha and Thangabalu -- on the charge of involvement in the murder.

The duo had a financial dispute with Venkatesh. On Wednesday night, they went to Venkatesh's house and took him out for a cup of tea. They reportedly killed Venkatesh by smashing his head with a boulder and fled the spot.

Ryot robbed of Rs. 1 lakh

A farmer, Sudheer, lost Rs. 1 lakh when unidentified persons took away the cash from the side box of his scooter parked in front of Andhra Bank branch at Saidabad on Thursday. Sudheer and his friend, Venkateswarlu, a retired employee of the DRDL, came to the bank in the morning. Venkateswarlu withdrew Rs. 1 lakh from the bank and gave to Sudheer who kept the cash in his scooter. After talking to Venkateswarlu for some time, Sudheer opened the side box only to find the cash missing.

Cases filed against 6 men

Six unidentified persons allegedly attempted to outrage the modesty of a female singer at Violin Bar in Narayanaguda on Thursday night. The six persons were in an intoxicated condition. When the bar management raised objections, the accused persons allegedly ransacked the bar and damaged the furniture and threatened to kill the bar manager. "We have identified two of them and registered cases for criminal intimidation and attempt to outrage the modesty of the singer," the Abids ACP, Mohd. Tajuddin, said.

Man found dead on hill

A resident of Banjara Hills, G.P.V.D. Moorthy (55), was found dead on a hill near Durgam Cheruvu under Madhapur police station area. Examination of the body suggested that the victim committed suicide by consuming poison, the police said.
