CPI team to tour various irrigation projects in State

KARIMNAGAR: The CPI team will conduct its third phase of visits to various irrigation projects in the State from August 27 to 29, said CPI floor leader in the Assembly Chada Venkat Reddy.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, he said that the team comprising of CPI State secretary Narayana, MP Suvaram Sudhakar Reddy, the legislators and former legislators and others will tour Pulichintala, Nagarjunasagar tail pond, AMR project, Thelladevarapalli tunnel point, Kalwakurthy lift irrigation projects, Nettampadu lift point, Bheema lift point etc.

Coordinator sought

After inspecting all the projects, they will submit a report to the State Government to expedite irrigation projects. He suggested the Government to accord priority for land acquisition for all irrigation projects by appointing Special Deputy Collectors and surveyors. He also suggested the appointment of a coordinator for the execution of projects.

With regard to the SRSP flood flow canal, he demanded the Government to open the SE office in Karimnagar town instead of Warangal. He also suggested the Government to examine the Mid Manair Dam for the execution of flood flow canal in Manwada village.

On the re-imposition of ban on the Maoists in the State, the CPI leader said that there was no meaning in the imposition of ban on the naxalite groups.

The Congress had promised lifting of ban during the elections, he said and added it had re-imposed it after assassination of Congress legislator and others in Mahbubnagar district recently.

As long as there is poverty, there would be extremism, he said and called on the Government to focus on socio-economic development of the backward regions of the State.

Land occupation

Regarding land occupation programme taken up by the party, he said that 150 acres of Government lands were occupied by private persons in Karimnagar town alone. He said that the CPI had exposed the alleged corrupt practices of the irrigation officials with planting of their party flags to occupy the SRSP lands in the outskirts of Karimnagar town.

He also threatened to intensify their campaign for occupying vacant Government lands after the municipal elections. The CPI district secretary, Marri Venkat Swamy was also present.
