Convention centre to come up near Golconda

HYDERABAD, AUG. 21. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) is planning a huge convention centre on the Gandipet road, similar to the one coming up at the HITEX Exhibition Centre at Madhapur.

The feasibility report for the project is being prepared by the Hyderabad-based March Consultancy & Research, and will be submitted to the corporation by next month.

Eyeing conferences

The Rs. 40-crore project will have a convention centre, a hotel and related infrastructure required to hold large international conferences, official gatherings and corporate meetings.

While considering the proposal, the corporation seems to have set the criterion that the centre should be located away from the crowded parts of the city, and yet be an attractive proposition for conferences.

Near Taramathi

The project, named `Deccani Convention Centre', is understood to be proposed at a site near `Taramathi' and `Premavathi', the two memorials in the vicinity of Golconda Fort. Incidentally, the APTDC had developed the Taramathi project at a cost of Rs.6 crores, which includes an open-air theatre, a 500-seat AC theatre and a restaurant.

The APTDC Chairman C. Anjaneya Reddy recently said there was also a proposal to develop 13 acres at Premavathi as a culture village.

The plan to set up the Deccani Convention Centre thus falls into an overall tourism development plan of the corporation for the area.

Briefing reporters on March Consultancy, its head, L. K. Kishore said it had been asked by the corporation last month to prepare a feasibility report for the project, which would be submitted by this month end or next month.
