`Congress backed CPI candidates'

Kadapa leaders refute CPI charge

KADAPA: Congress leaders on Thursday condemned the charges levelled by CPI leaders and asserted that they wholeheartedly strived for the victory of CPI candidates in Kadapa Municipal Corporation.

Asserting that Congress extended political as well as financial support to the three CPI candidates, the Kadapa Mayor-designate P. Ravindranath Reddy, Kadapa MLA Md. Ahmedullah, and ZP Chairman K. Suresh Babu, at a press conference here, termed the CPI district Secretary G. Obulesu's charges as vague and unwarranted. Congress leaders canvassed in all the 50 Kadapa divisions, they stated.

Failing to ensure victory of its candidates, the CPI Secretary was blaming the Congress, they alleged. Congress was reconsidering the admission of an independent corporator-elect Sardari, as party activists were opposing his entry because he allegedly attacked and grievously injured a party activist, Azam, on the polling day, they said. Azam was referred to Hyderabad with a severe eye injury, they said.

Mr. Suresh Babu claimed to have remarked that the TDP won the 14th Kadapa division, as CPI (M) nominee's chances were marred by three rebel Congressmen in fray. Kadapa mandal President J. Mallikarjuna and DCC General Secretary Ghouse Peer also took part.
