V.P.S Public School walks away with laurels; 410 teams participate in the event

VIJAYAWADA: The Krishna district Collector, Navin Mittal, congratulated the winners of The Hindu Young World Quiz-2005 conducted at Devaiah Auditorium on the premises of Andhra Loyola College, here on Friday.

Addressing the participants, Mr. Mittal said it was heartening to see the youngsters taking active part in the battle of brains. The event was managed by the Chennai-based event managers, Quizwallahs. The participants walked away with prizes, gift hampers and goodies in addition to participation certificates.

Best six

A common round for all the 410 teams was held to pick the best six teams who participated in the six different rounds of queries. The selected schools were the V.P.S. Public School, Vijayawada, represented by A.C. Pradyumna and R. Y. Prathik, N. St. Mathew's Public School, Vijayawada, represented by M. Manoj Kumar and K. Rohit, Nirmala High School, Machilipatnam, represented by G. Ravi Kiran and B. Ramsai Manoj, Nalanda Vidya Niketan represented by G. Vybhav Venkatesh and N. Saideep, Noble Kids English Medium School, Vijayawada represented by Gress Angelen and M.N.L Bharan and Teja Talent School, Kodad, represented by B. Harshavardhan Reddy and K. Sharath Chandra.

The six rounds were aptly named `Ekam Satyam' (choosing the correct answer), `Chitrahaar' (questions based on visual clippings), buzzer round, Jugalbandi (mix of music and video clippings), crossword and the shootout round. The V.P.S Public School boys emerged winners while the N.S.M Public School team was the runners up. The title sponsor of the event was Eveready and the associate sponsor was IQ Topper.

The other national sponsors were Reynolds, State Bank of Travancore, Cycle Brand Agarbathis, Encyclopaedia Britannica and Penguin. Coca-Cola was the official drink. The regional sponsors were Priya Gold Biscuits, M&M, Andhra Loyola College, Vijaya Enterprises, DV Manor, VETA, Spice Inn, IIHM, Elegantt Car Shop, Regent Vitrified Tiles, Ashok Book Centre, Brooks, Modern Super Market, IAR Charitable Trust and Sweet Magic. This year's quiz theme was "On Everything India".
