CM showers sops on Kurnool

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu showered sops on the district at the Independence Day celebrations here on Friday. In a marked difference, Mr. Naidu deviated from the pre-written clichéd text and gave vent to his feelings on various aspects of bifurcation and its aftermath.

He said the abundant natural resources and enlightened people were the biggest asset of the new State, which had to begin from the scratch. Mr. Naidu admitted that Kurnool and Srikakulam were the poorest districts in the State which needed special attention.

He promised to set up a Deemed Agriculture University at Nandyal with specialisation in seed development and research with a view to develop the place as seed production hub of the country. Also, an IIIT and Urdu university would be established in Kurnool.

He said an industrial hub would be established on the city outskirts, utilising the 30,000-acre vacant government land at Orvakal where an airport would also come up. As per the government vision, Kurnool would figure in the list of the 13 smart cities proposed. He announced that a textile cluster was being planned between Adoni and Yemmiganur. A mining college at Dhone, veterinary research station at Banavasi and Rayalaseema Institute of Medical Sciences were being planned, the CM said.
