CM promises to increase funds for repair of churches

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, organised a get-together for the Christian community on the occasion of Christmas here on Wednesday.

Mr. Naidu cut a cake and later addressed the gathering wherein he praised the Christian missionaries for doing a lot to eradicate child and bonded labour. He promised to enhance the budget for repairs and maintenance of churches.

The Hyderabad Archbishop, Marempudi Joji, appealed to Mr. Naidu to provide representation to Christians as District Minority Welfare Officers, increase grant for construction and repairs of churches from Rs. 50 lakhs to Rs. 2 crores, allot sites for cemeteries at Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Vizag, Kakinada and Rajahmundry and extend 20 per cent concession to Christians to go on pilgrimages to Rome and Jerusalem. Della Godfrey, MLA, wanted sanction of funds for restoration of heritage buildings of church complexes. The Pricipal Secretaries, Minnie Mathews, and A.K. Tigidi, retired IPS officer, G. Alfred, and other Christian leaders were present.
