Civic polls: BJP to go it alone

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The BJP will go alone in the coming municipal polls. It will contest in all the municipalities, corporations and individual wards/divisions throughout the State.

A decision to the effect was taken by the State office-bearers meeting of the party here on Monday.

The BJP leaders refuted the suggestion that their decision to contest the elections alone was driven by the recent announcement of TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, that his party would not forge any alliances. In fact, the BJP had decided against continuing its alliance with the TDP in July last year, the State president, N. Indrasena Reddy, the vice-presidents-- S.V. Seshagiri Rao and G. Ramakrishna Reddy-- and general secretary, K. Laxman, told reporters.

They said the BJP had also decided to send a party delegation to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to request him to organise the Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations officially at least this year.

This had been their plea for the last few years but it was never conceded.
