HYDERABAD Oct. 31. The Uppal Municipal Council on Thursday approved 55 additional development works costing Rs. 1.15 crores. The works were being taken up following public representations made during a recent `padayatra' of the Municipal Chairman, D. Srinivas.

A sum of Rs. 1.15 crores expected to be accrued following revision of property tax would be utilised for the works. The pre-revision tax revenue was Rs. 1.6 crores.

Most of the works approved include laying/repairs of roads, repairs to sewerage lines and culverts, laying of pipelines, fencing around Arvind Nagar Park, purchase of play equipment, building of a community hall and parks.

Mr. Srinivas chaired the meeting. The executive engineer, Pitambaram, led the team of officials in the absence of the Commissioner, Ramamohan Rao, who was away attending court work.

The meeting approved spending of non-Plan amounts totalling Rs. 72.47 lakhs for setting up an e-Seva centre at Street No. 8 Habsiguda (Rs. 10 lakhs), central lighting on main thoroughfares (Rs. 26 lakhs) and purchase of streetlight fittings for each of the 24 wards (Rs. 36 lakhs). Councillors from various parties complained of the non-functioning of streetlights.

The meeting okayed an order issued in response to a directive by the State Government and the Director, Municipal Administration, barring interference in the affairs of the council by husbands/relatives of women councillors.

A proposal to appoint on contract, three or four community coordinators on a monthly salary of Rs. 2,000 each was cleared. The coordinators would suggest improvements in the working of self-help groups functioning in the municipal limits. It also approved a proposal to select a councillor for attending meetings of the Notified Industrial Areas Services Society along with the Chairman and the Commissioner.
