Attired in colourful ‘langa-voni’ and other traditional wear, children between the age-group of three and six had a gala time at the mass bhogi-pallu function.

As part of Bhogi festival, many Telugu people queued up along with their children to celebrate mass ‘bhogi-pallu’ which was organised by Sri Gayatri Welfare and Cultural Youth Academy along with Nehru Yuva Kendra at Nature Cure Hospital here on Sunday.

Close to 25 children took part in the colourful ritual. A mix of ‘regi-pallu’, flower petals, pieces of sugarcane, coins and jaggery were showered on them. The occasion drew many women who blessed the children and participated in rangoli competition. They filled the path with big and colourful ‘rangoli’ mixing in lot of bright hues.

Bhogi-pallu are showered to ward-off evil eye and bless the children with abundance and long life, said one of the organisers S. Srilakshmi. “The happy occasion brings our neighbours and friends together. Some celebrate it for three years consecutively for their children while a few would continue for five years,” she said. Adding fervour to the festival, a six-step of ‘bommala-koluvu’ was also on display at the venue. Manager of District Youth Services P. Nageswara Rao, organisers S. Lakshmi Narayana, R. Ravi Kumar and others were present.
