They caught him red handed on Monday evening while manufacturing a single barrel gun used for shooting birds and wild animals, police said.

Kakinada sub-divisional police officer S Baburao along with his Peddapuram counterpart JS Ramarao effected the arrest.

They seized metal pipes, springs and wooden pieces used for gun making. The accused, according to police, confessed that he had so far supplied half a dozen such guns to people in neighbouring mandals.

Interestingly, the clandestine business came to light when a reporter of a cable network as a part of his investigative story purchased a gun for Rs.1500 and handed it over the same to the police.
