He reportedly left to sort out a land deal

HYDERABAD: Police on Wednesday said they were trying to trace a grocery store owner, Syed Ismail, who went missing two days ago mysteriously, after stepping out of his shop at Hayathnagar.

A resident of Vanasthalipuram, the businessman left his shop on Monday afternoon saying he was going to the old city to sort out a land deal.

Family threatened?

He did not return home since then but called up his wife the next day from his mobile phone. He asked her to send him Rs. 60,000 through a person, Akbar, whom he was sending to the house. Akbar came and took the cash. On Tuesday, Ismail rang up his father-in-law and sent Akbar asking for Rs. 2 lakhs, saying he urgently needed the money.

After Akbar collected the cash and left, some unidentified persons called up again saying they had kidnapped Ismail since he owed some money to a film producer.

Case registered

"They said they would set free Ismail only if his family members paid up the money. But no call was received till Wednesday night.

We registered a case of man missing," the Hayathnagar police said.
