Special trains to clear festival rush

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Railways will run special trains between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad to clear festival rush on Friday and Saturday.

Train No. 0748 will leave Hyderabad on Friday at 9 p.m. and reach Vizag the next day at 11.05 a.m. The Hyderabad-bound train 0747 will leave Vizag at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday and reach Hyderabad on Sunday at 9.40 a.m. - Staff Reporter

Major fire in rice mill

Kakinada: In a major fire that broke out in Sri Sai Agro Industries Boiled Rice Mill in Achyuthapura Trayam village in Pedapudi mandal on Thursday, 35,000 quintals of paddy was destroyed. The loss was estimated at over Rs. 1 crore. Electric short circuit was stated to be the cause of the blaze. - Correspondent

`Scrap constituency development fund'

ONGOLE: CPI(M) Polit Bureau member B.V. Raghavulu has asked the Government to scrap constituency development fund allotted to MLAs as there is scope for misuse. HYDERABAD: Reiterating its support to formation of separate Telangana, the CPI-ML (Liberation) has announced that it will expose the Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samithi for what it called their failure to live up to the expectations of the people of the region.

Two girls found dead

VIZIANAGARAM: Bodies of two girls - R. Santoshi, 8, and R. Lavanya, 5, -- were found floating in an open well at Munjeru village in Bhogapuram mandal on Thursday. The police said that the girls' father Govinda Rao had taken them out on a bicycle on December 20 evening. Rao is at large. - Correspondent

Body found on railway track

Nellore: The body of a 70-year-old person was found on the railway track at Kavali on Wednesday evening. The victim was later identified as G. Nagaiah of Chowdarypalem of Kavali rural mandal, who reportedly committed suicide by falling under the moving train, due to poverty. Meanwhile, an unidentified person was found dead near the RTC bus stand, Naidupet. He was presumed to have died due to prevailing cold weather. - Staff Reporter

Police blamed for teacher killing incident

Nellore: The district unit of the Lok Satta has squarely blamed the police for the incident in Kotapalli mandal of Adilabad district, where a woman teacher was killed by a youth, who later met the same fate at the hands of villagers. In a statement issued here on Thursday, functionaries of the Lok Satta, V. Arunachalam, B. Anjaiah Naidu and Ch. Yanadaiah, have pointed as to how the deceased teacher, Ganga Bhavani, had complained twice to the police about the alleged harassment of accused M. Satish. - Staff Reporter

Plea for dismissal of employee

KURNOOL: Child Rights Protection Forum and AISF have urged the Government to dismiss Adam (40), a State Government employee, who married a minor girl. The employee also charged with bigamy. In a statement, M. Mallesh of (CRPF), N. Lenin Babu and D. Lakshmi Narayana Reddy (AISF) said they inquired into the incident of child marriage and found the incident to be true. Adam married a 12-year old girl at Iranbanda village under Gonegandla mandal on December 19.

His first wife, Emelia, who worked as Anganwadi worker, agreed for the marriage as the couple were childless.
