VIJAYAWADA: A hoax call triggered panic on the premises of City Civil Courts on Thursday. An anonymous caller called the police control room at 10.52 a.m. and told the constable on duty that a bomb was planted in the court hall of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and it would explode at 11.44 a.m.

Trial of a case pertaining to Ibrahimpatnam and surrounding areas was in progress in the court hall when the call came. Even as the caller continued to caution the constable, the call got disconnected. The constable alerted the Governorpet police and the latter reached the court along with bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs. The courts of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and Third Metropolitan Magistrate were immediately vacated.

After searching the court halls for half-an-hour, the police confirmed that it was a hoax call. Functioning of the two courts resumed only in the afternoon, while other courts located on the premises functioned as usual.

Interestingly, the telephone number of the caller did not record in the police control room even though control room has all the sophisticated machinery to record the telephone numbers and address of the caller besides being able to record the conversation.
