BJP questions logic behind rabi power move

ONGOLE: Bharatiya Janata Party State president N. Indrasena Reddy has criticised the Government for creating confusion among people with its hasty decisions on linking gas supply with ration cards, and on denying free power to farmers for raising paddy in the rabi season.

Speaking to newspersons here on Monday, he said that many people have not applied for ration cards as they do not want to depend on public distribution system for rice, sugar and kerosene. They were shocked when the Minister for Civil Supplies announced that ration card was essential to get gas connection.

He pointed out that the Congress came to power on the promise of supplying free power to farmers. But after coming to power, it has reduced the supply from nine to seven hours a day. It is now planning to deny free power to farmers who raise paddy on the plea to save groundwater. The Government wants farmers to switch over to commercial crops without providing minimum support price. The Government has failed to supply seeds and fertilisers to meet needs of farmers. He welcomed the High Court judgment striking down 5 per cent reservation for Muslims. He said BJP opposes religion-based reservation.

On separate Telangana, he said his party is committed to smaller states. But, he made it clear that the BJP has no plans to launch an agitation for it.
