Bad weather impedes search for seamen

VISAKHAPATNAM, AUG. 21. Search for the 12 crew members who went missing after a fishing trawler, MFV Sarani, capsized about 70 to 80 nautical miles off Haldia, continued for the second day on Saturday.

According to the Managing Director of the Saravanan Marine Products Limited of Chennai, C. Kumar, the sea was still rough and only Coast Guard vessels were engaged in search operations.

Trawlers return

The 20 fishing trawlers, which were also involved in the search operations on Friday returned to the Paradip port as the weather was rough.

MFV Sarani, with a 13-member crew on board, had capsized on Thursday midnight. Only a deckhand, M. Jude, survived the accident.

He was picked up by another fishing trawler and brought to Paradip.
