New Rs. 50 notesThe Reserve Bank of India RBI will shortly be issuing Rs.50 denomination bank notes with inset letter E in both numbering panels in Mahatma Gandhi Series- 2005 bearing the signature of Dr.Y.V.Reddy, Governor, RBI.

Except for the change in inset letter, the design of these notes will be similar in all respects to the bank notes in Mahatma Gandhi Series issued with additional new security features.

All bank notes in the denomination of Rs.50 issued by the bank in the past will continue to be legal tender.

Aid for artistsThe Government has sanctioned financial assistance of Rs.500 a month for an additional 832 indigent artists.

According to an official release, the Department of Culture has released the amounts from December 2005 to March 2006 to all Collectors for disbursement.

As a matter of policy, the Government had decided to extend financial assistance to 3,000 indigent artists and men of letters. Accordingly, 2,168 were given aid earlier.

Printing Press electionsThe Hyderabad Security Printing Press Employees Union (HSPP) led by INTUC president G.Sanjeeva Reddy won the union membership elections by a majority of 80 votes over the Mazdoor Union led by Telugu Desam Party, Member of Parliament, M.Jagannadham.

The elections were held on Sunday at Government of India Printing Press, Mint compound.
