Commodity prices

The following were the rates (Rs. per kg) of essential commodities in local wholesale market on Saturday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce & Industry: Groundnut oil-52, Palmolein oil-40, Sunflower oil-48.50, Tamarind (flower variety)-21 to 27, Tamarind (karipuli variety)-42 to 48, Chillies (refrigerated)-25 to 30, Chillies (non-refrigerated)-10 to 15, Rice 2716 - 13, Super fine - 15, Sona Masuri 16 to 17, Samba-15 to 17, Black gram (Pottu Minappappu)-37.20 and Red gram (Kandipappu) -24 to 32.

Epilepsy camp

Medicines will be distributed free to epilepsy patients at an awareness camp to be held at Bharathi Clinic, Chandramoulipuram (lane opposite ICICI Bank) on Sunday. Epilepsy patients are often subject to neglect because of several misconceptions associated with the disease.

With proper diagnosis and treatment epilepsy patients can lead normals lives, says P. Vijayalakshmi, psychiatrist.

Health camp for policemen

The city police conducted a two-day health camp for police personnel on the Central Armed Reserve grounds.

The Police Department, in association with Indo-American Cancer Institute Research Centre arranged the camp and conducted cancer-screening tests to the personnel and their family members.

Family members of over 1,000 staff working under the City Police Commissionerate were screened for cancer at the camp.

Addressing a gathering at the valedictory of the medical camp, Dr. Haritha of the research centre said that cancer could be prevented if it diagnosed in the early stage.
