The following were the prices (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Thursday: Groundnut oil - 50, palmolein oil - 39 sunflower oil - 47, tamarind (flower variety) - 20 to 28, tamarind (karipuli variety) - 42 to 46, chillies (new)- 10 to 15, rice (2716) - 13, rice superfine - 15, Samba Masoori 15 to17, Sona Masoori - 17 to 19, black gram (pottu minapappu) - 27 to 28.50, red gram (kandipappu) - 25, red gram (pandiripalem) 27, red gram (Nagpur) 29.50.

Rajesh Berry

The General Manager of D.V. Manor, Rajesh Berry, has been chosen for the prestigious Arch of Excellence (Business) Award in recognition of his "outstanding career in the hospitality field that spans over three decades.

The other luminaries that have been conferred the award till now include actresses Sushmita Sen, Sudha Chandran and journalist-writer and filmmaker, Jancie Darbari.

Power shutdown

Power will be shutdown for consumers in Patamata section from 7 am to 9 am on Sunday for taking up maintenance work.

The affected areas are Industrial Estate, Ayyappa nagar, NTR circle, Pantakalava Road, R R Gardens and Autonagar Technicians Colony.

Environment Day

The Rotary Club of Vijayawada Centennial celebrated the World Environment Day today. Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board senior environmental engineer, Rajendra Reddy, explained the concept of "Green Cities Plan for the Planet."

Club president, N.Vidya Kanna, and A Nagamalleswara Rao, spoke.

Yoga classes

The Pranadatha Yoga Seva Kendram will conduct yoga classes at Paradise Hotel conference hall from June 7. The yoga camp will run for four weeks from 5.30 am to 7 am.

Advance relaxation techniques will be taught to the participants. Since the accommodation is limited the registration for the classes would be done a first come, first served basis.
