Power shutdown

Power would not available in the following areas between 7 a.m and 1 p.m on Friday: P&T Colony III, RTC & Electricity colony, L.P. Nagar & Donka Road, Santhi Nagar, Darsipet, The Hindu, Andhra Jyothi, Andhra Oil Mill and Surendra Cotton.

Relay fast


The relay hunger strike launched by the United Forum for BSNL executives continued for the third day too on Thursday. In response to a call given by the All India BSNL Executives' Association, the executives launched the agitation demanding a solution to their long-pending problems.

Death anniversary

The Vijayawada city unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Chalasani Venkataratnam Memorial Trust will observe the 33rd death anniversary of Chalasani Venkataratnam on March 19. The meeting will be held at the Tummalapallivari Kshetraiah Kalakshetram in which the CPI State secretary, Suravaram Sudhakara Reddy, will be the chief guest.


The deputy general manager of the State Bank of India, N.V. Suryanarayana Rao, on Thursday inaugurated the ATM facility at the bank's station road branch. This is the 4,999th ATM of the bank. The bank presented a super computer to the junior international chess champion, Dasari Srinivas, on the occasion. The station road branch manager, K. Rangarajan, and others were present.

Magisterial probe

The Collector, K. Prabhakara Reddy, ordered a magisterial inquiry into the custodial death of remand prisoners P. Rambabu, who died on August 11, 2004, and V. Anjaneyulu, who died on May 29, 2004. The Sub-Collector would conduct the inquiry from 3 pm on Saturday at his office.
