ANU honours Montek Singh, Brahmanandam, Nageshwar Reddy

GUNTUR, MARCH. 24. The Chancellor of Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) and Governor, Sushil Kumar Shinde, presented honorary degrees to the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology Director, D. Nageshwar Reddy, and film comedian, K. Brahmanandam, at the 26th convocation on Thursday.

The Chancellor also presented 76 gold medals, nine prizes for academic excellence, 17 Ph.Ds and 49 M.Phils, along with degrees for 3,167 post-graduates and 17,195 graduates of different faculties.

There was festive atmosphere on the university campus and the presence of Mr. Brahmanandam drew more number of curious audiences to the indoor stadium despite sultry conditions due to lack of fans. Students cheered the comedian by clapping after he received the Doctor of Letters degree.

Developmental activities

The Vice-Chancellor, L. Venugopala Reddy, in a long-winding report detailed the developmental activities taken up on campus by constructing new buildings, academic activities like organising international seminar on English Grammar, symposium on `Farmers problems in Andhra Pradesh.

Career on Wheels an innovative education programme on train was launched by the university and the 65th All-India Inter-University Athletic meet was also successfully organised, Prof. Reddy said.

Dafedar's new role

So impressed was the Governor's Dafedar, Md. Rahim Khan, with the proceedings at the convocation that he took some time out and joined that battery of media photographers and videographers to click a few pictures of Mr. Shinde on the dais.
