All set for launch of industries project in West Godavari

ELURU: The District Rural Industries Project proposed to be taken up in West Godavari district under the aegis of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) will be launched here on Wednesday.

According to a press release, the NABARD has conducted a study on the potential for the rural non-farm sector in the district.

According to the study, there is a potential for palm fibre in Koyyalagudem, Jangareddygudem, Polavaram and Nallajarla mandals. Chemical and free jaggery in Nidadavole and Tanuku mandals; manufacture of dairy products in Nallajarla, Devarapalli and Kovvur mandals; banana fibre in Kovvur and Chagallu mandals; coir rope and mat-making in Narsapur, Palacole and Mogaltur mandals; handlooms in Palacole, Narsapur and Achanta.

Project partners

Bankers, NGOs, Andhra Pradesh Productivity Council, NABARD, District Industries Centre, Khadi Village Industries Centre, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) and Handlooms Department form part of the project partners.

The NGOs would be involved in product development, design development, market survey and development, brand registration, opening of showrooms and raw material supply centres, the release said.

The NABARD would extend soft loans/grants to NGOs participating in the project implementation. The NABARD would also extend grants to the respective gram panchayats for construction of `rural haats' (markets), it added.
