ANDHRA PRADESH

Alamatti water in a trickle

HYDERABAD, JULY 24. The outflow of Alamatti waters towards Andhra Pradesh began in trickles on Saturday.

The Jurala project, Krishna river's entry point, was receiving 1,111 cusecs of water from the upper reaches. Alamatti was discharging a negligible quantum of 45 cusecs but its downstream twin, Narayanpur, was sending out 3,325 cusecs. Jurala, which was empty with hardly any availability above the dead storage, was absorbing whatever water coming in.

In the absence of any official word from Karnataka, the State Government inferred that it was an unofficial discharge.

The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, declined to answer questions from reporters on the issue.
