AISF stages dharna seeking scholarship for BCs

CUDDAPAH, FEB. 26. Functionaries of the All India Students Federation (AISF) staged a dharna near Pragathi Bhavan here on Thursday, demanding budgetary grant for scholarships of the backward class students.

Addressing protesters, the AISF district president, N. Narasimhulu, and its vice-president, K.C. Badulla, deplored the non-release of scholarship amount although the academic year was coming to and end. They criticised the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, for delaying sanction of Rs. 1.25 crores towards BC scholarships.

The Government was squandering crores of rupees on programmes such as Janmabhoomi and Vijayabheri, but indifferent to release of scholarship for BCs for which 5,600 BC students in the district had applied so far, they said. The AISF leaders lamented that the Government was yet to release scholarships for Scheduled Tribe students for the last two years. They decried the reduction of fee reimbursement to SC students through G.O. No. 56.

They submitted a memorandum to the BC Welfare Officer, Annapurnamma. The AISF functionaries, B. Obulesu, Munaiah, Venkateswara Reddy, Malakondaiah, Narasimha and Venkataram, participated.

Rasta roko

Nearly 300 students led by AISF functionaries staged rasta roko in front of the Pendlimarry MRO office on Thursday, decrying issuance of house sites pattas on the ZP high school premises in Vellatur village in Pendlimarry mandal. The AISF leader, Ramaraju, accused revenue officials of issuing pattas for extraneous considerations and sought cancellation of the same.
