Agriculture gets lion's share in credit plan

NALGONDA, MARCH 24. The Collector, K. Vijayanand, on Thursday unveiled the credit plan for 2005-06 with an outlay of Rs. 846.65 crores, an increase of 25 percent compared to the previous fiscal. The lion's share went to agriculture.

While Rs. 440.40 crores was earmarked for crop loans, Rs. 127.04 was allotted for agricultural term loans.

The allocations for the other sectors are, Rs. 143.09 for industries and Rs. 136.12 crores for the service sector.

Addressing bankers to mark the occasion, Mr. Vijayanand asked them to accord top priority to the farming community, which had been reeling under drought for the last three years. Loan facility had been provided for about 50,000 new ryots, he said.

Linkage to SHGs

Mr. Vijayanand thanked the bankers for their cooperation in extending bank linkage facility to self-help groups. "More than Rs. 62 crores was given to 17,000 groups. Nalgonda district stood second to East Godavari in the State having taken up the exercise on a massive scale,'' he announced setting a target of Rs. 100 crores for the next fiscal.

Announcing that the Government intended to construct 4,500 houses in four municipalities under the Rajiv Gruhakalpa scheme, Mr. Vijayanand called upon bankers to extend their cooperation to make the programme a success. Construction would begin on June 20.

The General Manager, State Bank of Hyderabad, M. Sudhir congratulated the bankers for meeting 75 percent target of the last annual credit plan.

Knowledge centres

He asked the officers and bankers to strive to convert the Ryot Clubs into Ryot Knowledge Centres so that awareness could be created among the farming community.

The Project Director, DRDA, M. Champa Lal, the RBI representative, Subramanyam, the AGM, Nabard, Hussain, the Joint Directors, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Manmohan Reddy and Tirupataiah, The Executive Directors of SC and BC Corporations, Srinivasa Naik and Kamala Kumari also took part in the meeting.
