Advancement scheme for police personnel too

HYDERABAD, DEC. 6. The automatic advancement scheme, now in vogue in various departments, will now be implemented for constables, head constables and sub-inspectors of police, enabling them to get monetary benefit without enhancement in rank.

About 55,000 personnel will benefit from this decision, which will be implemented with retrospective effect from September 1, 2001. They will straightaway get Rs. 8,000 to 15,000 as arrears in addition to the revised pay from January 1, 2005, the Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, told reporters here on Monday. The three categories of policemen who have worked in their present posts without promotions for eights years would be eligible for special grade pay. They would be eligible for special promotion scale and automatic advancement increment if they put in 16 and 24 years service, respectively, in the same posts.
